For centuries, Sand was a central coastal settlement with salmon fishing, timber rafting, crafts, traditional boat traffic, and trade. Sand had its heyday in the mid-1800s when the population was at its highest, and there was also significant activity in shipbuilding and herring salting.
Sand Safari is a walking trail that takes you through the coastal settlement, where by scanning QR codes, you will learn more about its exciting history. At each stop, you will meet children or young people who grew up in the coastal settlement—some from the early 1800s, two from the 1870s, and others from the early 1900s. They will introduce themselves and share a bit about the coastal settlement during their upbringing.
Drama students from the cultural school play these authentic roles and tell the story of Sand.
