When Else, the eldest daughter of Provost Paul Knutsen, was sent away from Jelsa, Lars Bjørnson Jelsa (1777-1853) wrote this song for her. Lars got married in 1812, so the song must have been composed before then. It is said that the song was widely sung in Jelsa.
