From river to sea, and back again

The life of the salmon is an exciting journey that both begins and ends in the river. The eggs are laid in the gravel at the riverbed. These eggs hatch in the spring, and the newly hatched salmon fry feed on the nutrients from the yolk sac they were born with for the first few weeks. After this, the fish must swim up from the gravel to find food. After several years in the river, it is ready to make its way out to sea, where it often stays for several years. When it is ready to spawn, it finds its way back to its home river.
