Johannes Tveitane (1914-2001) was from Suldalseid. He started playing the Hardanger fiddle when he was 10-12 years old, and he also played the accordion. He moved to Sand in 1946, got married, and started a family. Johannes worked as a blacksmith. His house by the Cultural Centre is now called Musikksmia and is used by the cultural school. Tove Solheim (b. 1971) plays one of his favourite tunes here, a halling.
The Rogaland Folk Music Archive is part of the Ryfylke Museum and covers the entire county. The archive manages a collection of approximately 500 units of audio and video recordings and conducts extensive outreach work in folk music and folk dance.
