Magnus Skibevaag (1917 – 2004) was born and raised in Sand. He loved to sing from a young age and knew a multitude of songs, everything from work songs to broadside ballads and lullabies. Magnus worked his entire life with various types of jobs; he worked on construction sites, was involved in both forestry and agricultural work, and small-scale fishing in the fjord. He was married to Olga Aasland, and they built their house by Eidsvegen in 1959. Here he sings a verse from the song «Fager som ei rosa».
The Rogaland Folk Music Archive is part of the Ryfylke Museum and covers the entire county. The archive manages a collection of approximately 500 units of audio and video recordings and conducts extensive outreach work in folk music and folk dance.
