Olav Bråtveit (1896-1973) grew up in Bråtveit. As an adult, he built a house in Eidsvegen in Sand, where he lived with his wife Anna Danielsdotter Fattnes and four children. He was employed as a woodworking teacher and caretaker at Ryfylke Folk High School in Sand for 40 years. Olav Bråtveit is our most important source for the old traditional fiddle music played on the Hardanger fiddle in Suldal. Here he sings a lullaby: Ru ru rudde, and plays the springar "Signe Ulladalen".
The Rogaland Folk Music Archive is part of the Ryfylke Museum and covers the entire county as its area of work. The archive manages a collection of approximately 500 units of audio and video recordings and conducts extensive outreach work in folk music and folk dance.
