For centuries, Sand was a central coastal town known for salmon fishing, timber rafting, crafts, jekt boat transport, and trade. Sand experienced its heyday in the mid-1800s when its population was at its peak, and there was also significant activity in shipbuilding and herring salting.
Sand Safari is a hiking trail that takes you through the coastal town, where by scanning QR codes, you'll learn more about its exciting history. At each stop, children or young people who grew up in the coastal town will appear – some from the early 1800s, two from the 1870s, and others from the early 1900s. They will introduce themselves and share a bit about the coastal town during the time they grew up.
Drama students from the cultural school play the authentic roles and tell the story of Sand.
