Sand Power Station is the oldest power station in Suldal and first opened in 1916. This also marked the first time a light bulb was switched on in the municipality. The power station is located by Juvet, just above Sandsbygda, and utilizes the drop from the intake reservoir Hiimsvatnet. Its installed capacity is 3.5 MW. Today, the power station is protected. Sand Power Station was the beginning of Suldal Elverk, which has now merged with Haugaland Kraft.
Sand Safari is a hiking trail that takes you through the coastal town, where by scanning QR codes, you will learn more about its exciting history. At each stop, children or teenagers who grew up in the coastal town will appear – some from the early 1800s, two from the 1870s, and others from the early 1900s. They will introduce themselves and share a bit about the coastal town during the time they grew up.
