In Suldal, there are many beautiful and calm mountain lakes and fjords where the whole family can try their luck at fishing. At Mosvatnet in Gullingen, there is a pier where you can easily fish from, with a lovely sandy beach nearby if you want to jump into the refreshing mountain lake yourself. You can also rent a boat and canoe from Gullingen Tourist Centre if you want to go further out on the water. Perhaps you'll find a deserted island to use as a small stop on your trip? If you wish to go out on Suldalsvatnet by Suldalsosen, you can also rent a boat and canoe from Vikane Hytetun or Energihotellet.
Hylen in Øvre Suldal and Vatlandsvåg on the Ropeid peninsula are great places for fjord fishing in idyllic surroundings. At Joker Vatlandsvåg on the Ropeid peninsula and from Fjord Expedition in Jelsa, you can rent a boat to explore the exciting fjord arms in the area. The sea boasts a rich diversity of fish species.
At Eide in Sand, you'll find Suldal's fantastic water park: Suldal Bad. Here you can enjoy yourselves for hours with an outdoor hot tub, sauna, pool, slide, diving tower, and climbing wall. There's also a small cafe there. Throughout the year, they also arrange various fun events and activities.
The salmon studio is a fun experience for all ages. Here you can learn more about the history of salmon and watch a video showing the difference between salmon and trout. Down in the studio, you can see the salmon and trout for yourself, and perhaps you'll be able to tell the difference between the two species after what you've learned in the exhibition? You can also try your hand as a fish inspector, where you'll receive a diploma if you manage to find all the fish hiding in the studio.

Nesasjøhuset is open all year round, featuring two exhibitions. On the top floor, you can step into Rasmus Løland's White Bear tale, where you can dress up as a king and queen, dance in the hall of mirrors, join the White Bear to hear the story, and climb tall towers.
In summer, Ryfylkemuseet also opens the Kolbeinstveit museum farm, where you can dress up in traditional clothing, feed the animals, and help with farm chores. Litunet and Ryfylkemuseet's other sites also offer wonderful experiences that can be explored outside of scheduled events and opening hours.
Kulturhuset in Suldal is located in Sand town centre. It features a bowling alley with three lanes, where you can book events or simply reserve a lane during opening hours. Several times a week, they also show fun movies, and you can visit the library to discover new and interesting reading material. There's also a cafe, perfect for families with young children, allowing the little ones to play freely while adults enjoy a cup of coffee.
In the municipality's hamlets, you'll discover many wonderful and varied hiking trails suitable for young children. If you're looking for an easier walk or are pushing a stroller, the trail from Sand town centre, over Høsebrua, and further up the river via Garaneset is absolutely perfect. The Stegåsen area near Eide in Sand also offers a wealth of hiking experiences in varied terrain, without being overly challenging. The paths around Mosvatnet and Onglanuten at Gullingen are also ideal for those with shorter legs. On your way down from Onglanuten, you can even take a refreshing shower in the waterfall if you like!
There are many small roads to explore in Suldal, and not all of them are equally challenging. The trip to Finnvik on the Ropeid peninsula is a wonderful family outing. At Blåsjø, you can enjoy fresh mountain air and the view of Norway's largest dam complex, with informative posters explaining more about the surrounding nature. Exploring Sand, passing through Nesflaten town centre, or visiting Suldalsosen offers a close-up look at daily life in the villages.
At Sand square, children can play and have fun while adults enjoy a bite to eat from local cafes or shop for their weekend essentials. The square also frequently hosts activities and fun events. Follow "Sand i Suldal" on Facebook for the latest updates.
In winter, children can explore the ski play areas at Gullingen, featuring mogul runs, jumps, and much more. The ski lift is also one of the few in Rogaland that offers tobogganing. Near Mosvatnet, there's a dedicated children's trail with evening lighting, and you'll also find excellent routes like Langeli and the illuminated trail at Fjellbergskardet.
