Strap on your skis and head to Snønuten! Here you'll find fantastic views over the high mountains, and excellent downhill skiing opportunities for those who venture out. With sunny days, this trip is guaranteed to be one of your most cherished spring memories.
Remember to tread carefully and show consideration.
Visit the municipal center of Sand for a cultural boost with cinema or bowling at Kulturhuset, or perhaps a concert? A visit to Ryfylkemuseet's main building, Nesasjøhuset, is also fun for the little ones. Sand also has several nice shops and cafes, and at Eide, you'll find the public bath Suldal Bad with multiple pools, an outdoor jacuzzi, a climbing wall, and a slide.
Several leisurely walks in Suldal are especially beautiful in spring when the coltsfoot emerges! Perhaps a trip to Førlandsøyane or to the Day Trip Cabins at Kvilehaugen (Jelsa) or Bjødlenuten (Suldalsosen) will give you a wonderful experience.
Find more leisurely walks and free hiking maps under "Hiking".
Visit producers of wine, apple juice, meat, honey, and much more! Or stop by their farm shops. Read about our culinary treasures here.
See the magnificent waterfalls in Suldal as the spring melt makes them powerful! In Hylsfjorden, you can get up close to Lingvongfossen by boat; in Sand, you can see Sandsfossen through the bottom of the award-winning Høse bridge; in the Gullingen area, you can get close to the waterfall leading up to Onglanuten (from Neikjen); and in Brattlandsdalen between Nesflaten and Røldal, you'll find the beautiful rest area built around Flesefossen.
A mountain ski tour across Reinsheia is fantastic on sunny days. Park at the ski lift in Gullingen and follow the tracks into Breiastølsdalen towards Sandsavatnet. On the slope down to the lake, you'll see poles marking the way beyond the groomed tracks and up the hillside towards Reinsheia. After the ascent, you walk along the ridge until you are past Stavastølen, and from there you can ski back down to the parking lot.
Spend a day in Jelsa and experience the taste of summer: spring arrives here earlier than elsewhere in the municipality, and a day in Rogaland's best-preserved coastal village can be spent strolling past beautiful wooden houses, visiting the church, relaxing on the beach, playing a round of disc golf, hiking to Kvilehaugen or Junkervarden, or enjoying lunch at Jelsa Hotel.
See all accommodation options in the municipality and book a weekend trip. Here you'll find accommodation in treehouses, Sleeping Beauty domes, cabins near Suldalslågen or Suldalsvatnet, and hotels with fjord views or golden fireplaces!
Rent a SUP or e-bike at Joker Vatlandsvåg and head into Halvøynå. Here you can walk the cultural trail around Grytevatnet, try fjord fishing, visit a vineyard, or see ancient burial mounds.
Visit Jelsa, Økstrafjorden, Erfjord, Hebnes, Vatlandsvåg, Marvik, Sand, or Hylen by boat. Here you'll find hiking trails, shops, local producers, farm sales, fishing opportunities, and culture around every corner.
