Welcome to the Jelsa cultural trail!

The Jelsa cultural trail is an interactive trail in Jelsa town center where you can learn more about the history of Ryfylke's best-preserved coastal village.

The tour takes you close to the fjord and daily life in the coastal village. Along the trail, you'll find various QR points, and by scanning these, you will get a video or an audio clip that gives you a glimpse of the history. You choose whether you want to do the entire trail, or if you select routes within themes you are interested in. You can use the map here on the page, by downloading our app, or by picking up a map at Suldal tourist information.

WHAT IS A CULTURAL TRAIL, ACTUALLY?

The goal of the cultural trails in Suldal is to give residents and visitors a little insight into the rich history of our various villages, and the municipality as a whole. Through QR points, we aim to ensure that everyone gets the same great experiences and can partake in the same compelling stories, no matter when they visit during the year. This trail is just one of several exciting cultural-historical trails in Suldal.

On the Ropeid peninsula, you can take the Viking trail where you can, among other things, hear the story of the greatest Viking chieftain in Ryfylke: Torstein of Heimnes. The Sand safari trail in the municipal center gives you insight into the exciting history of the coastal village close to Sandsfjorden.

The cultural trails in Suldal are a collaborative project between Suldal Municipality, Suldal Vekst, Visit Suldal, Suldal Cultural Center c/o drama, Ryfylke Museum, the village committees in each individual village, and a number of other local stakeholders.

APP

The trail is available in the "Visit Suldal" app, which you can download for free from the App Store. You can use the app to scan the QR points on the signs along the trail and get more information about your current location.
