Børkjenes gard: Ferieidyll på gamalt vis

Experience firsthand Suldal's rich history, cultural heritage, and unique mountain farm environment by staying at Børkjenes Gard in Hamrabø. Here you can choose between an authentic old-fashioned holiday idyll in one of their two mountain farm cabins up in Hamrabøheia, or more modern facilities in Kårhuset.

Børkjenes Gard is idyllically situated in Hamrabø, surrounded by scenic landscapes and a distinctive mountain farm environment. The farm spans from 280 to 1350 meters above sea level, from the farmyard all the way up to the mountains, and comprises a total of 40 buildings. These include the main house, kårhus, barn, sheep house, hen house, storehouse (stabbur), mill house, grain drying house, cable car house, cart shed with wood storage, smokehouse (eldhus), smithy, and sawmill. Most of the buildings date from the 19th century, but several buildings and their stories stretch further back in time.

The farm was awarded the Olavsrosa (St. Olav's Rose) in 2023, a quality mark for outstanding experiences rooted in Norwegian cultural heritage. They also received Suldal Municipality's building preservation award in 2018 for their work in preserving the architectural heritage at Børkjenes through numerous small and large restoration projects.

From the summer farms and Kårhuset, there is also access to an extensive network of hiking trails.

You can find Børkjenes Gard by turning off towards Hamrabø on the road between Sand and Nesflaten, in the middle of Suldalsvatnet (Lake Suldal), along RV13.
