The tour takes you close to the fjord, the salmon river Suldalslågen, and everyday life in the municipal center. Along the trail, you'll find various QR points, and by scanning them, you'll access a video or audio clip that gives you a glimpse into the history of the coastal town. The goal of the cultural trails in Suldal is to give residents and visitors a small insight into the rich history of our various hamlets and the municipality as a whole. Through QR points, we aim to ensure that everyone has the same great experiences and can partake in the same compelling stories, regardless of when they visit. This trail is just one of several exciting cultural-historical trails in Suldal.
On the Ropeid peninsula, you can take the Viking trail, where you can, among other things, hear the story of the greatest Viking chieftain in Ryfylke: Torstein of Heimnes. The cultural trail in Jelsa will tell you the exciting history behind Jelsa Church and the schoolhouse located there.
The cultural trails in Suldal are a collaborative project between Suldal Municipality, Suldal Vekst, Visit Suldal, Suldal Cultural Centre (drama department), Ryfylkemuseet, the hamlet committees in each individual hamlet, and a number of other local stakeholders.
The trail is available in the app «Visit Suldal», which you can download for free from the App Store. You can use the app to scan the QR points on the signs along the trail and get more information about your current location.
