Energihotellet is beautifully situated on a hill above the "Kilen" area in Nesflaten, which was developed as part of the Røldal Suldal Power development in the 1960s. To this day, the area is characterized by the work of one of Norway's foremost architects of that time, Geir Grung, with flat functionalist roofs on the residences and the distinctive "UFO" which today serves as the administration building for the power plant.
All 29 rooms are decorated in a minimalist style, with the focus in the rooms being the view of Lake Suldalsvatnet. During the summer months, it's possible to take a dip in the outdoor pool, just a short walk from the hotel. In winter, guests can warm up in the hotel's own sauna. The hotel is also part of the hotel chain "De historiske".
"We always try to showcase the entirety of the distinctive architecture in Nesflaten, including Hydro's operations center located here, the hotel, and the unique residences in Kilen, where flat roofs, among other things, are a hallmark. The architecture here is characterized by an un-Norwegian use of materials with a lot of concrete and large windows; it's about bringing nature into the buildings," says owner and general manager, Olav Lindseth.
Nesflaten is the northernmost hamlet in Suldal, surrounded by the largest lake in Rogaland and high mountain peaks. From the hotel, you can take leisurely strolls through the hamlet, swim, or go boating on Lake Suldalsvatnet, and rent an e-bike to explore charming construction roads that wind up the surrounding hillsides. Nesflaten is also an excellent starting point for exploring the surrounding uplands, with magnificent mountain peaks, an extensive network of trails, and a wide selection of tourist cabins.
At Energihotellet, you'll experience a culinary journey that matches its surroundings. Energihotellet offers tempting dishes based on local ingredients such as trout from Lake Suldalsvatnet, lamb and game from the Suldal uplands, and locally produced goods from nearby farmers. Their three- and four-course meals are among the bestsellers, and they also offer a dedicated cider menu from the region. The view over Lake Suldalsvatnet and the iconic golden fireplace create an atmospheric setting for every dining experience in the restaurant.
