Guggedalsloftet - Rogaland's oldest wooden building

Guggedalsloftet at Kolbeinstveit is a historical and architectural gem. The storehouse is the oldest wooden building in Rogaland, with its upper half dating from the 13th century and the lower part from the 15th century. The building was likely used to store food, but guests on the farm also stayed here at times.

Guggedalsloftet originally comes from Guggedalsgarden in Bråtveit, but was moved to Kolbeinstveit by the Ryfylke Museum. The storehouse also stood for a period in Stavanger as part of a planned regional museum, but was moved back when the timber could not withstand the climate change. At Kolbeinstveit, the storehouse stands as a beautiful part of a larger museum farmstead where the main houses date from the 1850s. 

In summer, Kolbeinstveit comes alive with animals and hosts in traditional clothing. The hosts are happy to take you on a guided tour to introduce you to the rich history of the buildings. Read more at ryfylkemuseet.no.
