The historic route over Hylsskardet


Hylsskardet is known for its distinctive rock formation in the mountains between Hylen and Vaage. The hike here is a great break on your drive along the National Tourist Route.

‍

Hylen was an important hub and trading center from 1850 until the mid-20th century when new roads were built in the municipality. Hylsskardet is an important cultural monument due to its unique character, but also because of the important status this pass held for travelers between the fjord and the mountain areas.

Park your car in Hylen by Vågstunellen, located on the National Tourist Route Ryfylke. From here, follow the historic route, which is marked up the pass, to great views over Hylen and Vaage.
