Suldalsvatnet

Suldalsvatnet is 30 km long and stretches from Roalkvam to Suldalsosen. It is also one of the deepest lakes in Norway, offering excellent opportunities for catching trout.

Historically, the lake served as a main thoroughfare connecting the fjord areas with the mountain regions. Until 1885, a steamboat transported passengers across the lake. In the 1930s, a ferry operated a route between Nesflaten and Solheimsvik. After the Ulla-Førre development, a road network was established along the lake, eliminating the need for ferries.


Fishing licenses for the lake can be obtained at and boats and canoes can be rented from Vikane Hyttetun.

Around Suldalsvatnet, you'll also find popular stops such as the Kolbeinstveit museum farm, the Røynevarden croft, and the exciting design hotel Energihotellet. Further up the valley, we recommend a stop at Suldalsporten, where the mountains form a gateway on either side of Suldalsvatnet.

Well-equipped: There are several easily accessible fishing spots along the lake. One such spot is Nesflaten quay, which features a large, paved quay right by the water. Contact us for more information.
