Hylsfjorden

Hylsfjorden is an arm of Sandsfjorden. Nestled between high mountains, you'll find what is perhaps the best-preserved gem in the Ryfylke fjord region, with small hamlets, beautiful swimming spots, and excellent fishing opportunities.

Hylsfjorden has a rich history, and back in the 19th century, Hylsfjorden and Hylen formed an important thoroughfare between Eastern and Western Norway. The wealth that developed in Hylen at that time has led to the beach here being known as "Silver Jug Beach" to this day. From Hylen, one can hike up to Hylsskardet, just as merchants did in the 19th century. From there, you get a magnificent view of the fjord.

Along the fjord, you'll find the iconic Lingvongfossen waterfall. A magnificent waterfall that was regulated as part of a hydropower development.

You can also visit the swimming area Sandvikjå in Vanvik, where you'll find a floating jetty, seating, and a sand volleyball court. Under "Hiking," you'll also find Vanvik's own hiking map.

The museum complex under the Ryfylke Museum, Litunet, also overlooks Hylsfjorden.

You can rent a canoe and boat to explore Hylsfjorden. During the summer season, Helgøy Skyssbåt organizes "Hylsfjordcruise" here. Contact us for group bookings outside of the season.
