Hålandstunet

Håland has always been one of the main estates in Erfjord and is operated by the Ryfylke Museum. The main house at Håland is the best-furnished and equipped of the Ryfylke Museum's historic buildings. Here, visitors can gain insight into life on a grand estate and how the more affluent members of the rural community lived.

Between 1640 and 1740, Håland served as a sheriff's farm and assembly site during several periods. The complex has been restored and today consists of three buildings: målastova, homannsbua, and stovehuset. To visit the magnificent Håland estate, turn off National Road 13 in Hålandsosen towards Østerhus. After the bridge, turn left.

One of the most precious artifacts in the Ryfylke Museum's collection is the Håland Bible, or King Christian III's Bible from 1550. It is remarkable that a copy of this first Danish Bible translation made its way to Håland. The Bible was discovered behind the paneling in one of Håland's living rooms when electricity was being installed in 1913. It may have remained there for several hundred years before its rediscovery. Today, only 35 copies of this Bible are known to exist in Norway, with 5 of them located in Rogaland. The Bible is currently in storage.
