The cabin is Stavanger Tourist Association's second oldest, built in 1898. It is small and simple, yet charming. Kvanndalen was previously considered the best mountain farm valley in Suldal, with farms located on both sides of the waterway.
The valley is very fertile, with the Kvanndalselva river winding through it in gentle bends and narrow rapids. The river is inviting for both swimming and fishing. Members of STF (Stavanger Tourist Association) can fish for free with a rod in the river. From Kvanndalsdammen, it's only a 1-2 hour walk to the cabin. If you want to explore the entire Kvanndalen valley, you should start from Haukeliseter. This trip takes approximately nine hours through magnificent nature. The cabin is not suitable for winter use.
The cabin does not have a provisions store, so you must carry all the food you need. Kvanndalen is unstaffed and accessible all year round. If you visit outside the season, contact the tour center to check if the bridges are in place. A year-round bridge has been established leading to Holmavatn/Sandvatn and Bleskestadmoen.
The cabin has a total of 14 sleeping places, with 4 beds and the rest being mattresses in the loft/on the floor. You pay by filling out a payment authorization form found at the cabin or by downloading the DNT app before departure.
If you use the cabin as a base, it's nice to take a day trip across the bridge at Tronggjo and walk up the scenic trail for a great view down towards Kvanndalsvatnet. For those who are a bit more active, we can also recommend Trollskeinutane, with peaks over 1600 meters.
