Skuteheia circular route

The Skuteheia circuit is a pleasant hike in gently rolling terrain through beautiful mountain pasture areas near Gullingen. Follow the road through the cabin area towards Stavastølen until you reach a sign pointing to the left. After a short climb, the landscape opens up.

The trail leads through lush birch forests and heather moors. Along the way, you will pass a small mountain farm in Storedalen before reaching a new plateau that takes you to Såtevatnet and Svartavatnet, where trout can be seen rising. This is a perfect spot for a short break—and perhaps a swim—before you begin the slight ascent to Skuteheia.

Here, the landscape takes on a more high-mountain character with scattered mountain birch and open terrain. You will pass Skutevatnet on the south side, and the path leads you right past the well-maintained Skutestølen. After a short distance, the descent to Stavastølen begins, and the final stretch of the hike follows the road back to the starting point.

For those who keep their eyes peeled and take the time to explore a little off the main trail, an extra surprise may await—a mysterious stone pattern built directly onto the mountain heath. Several spirals are woven together into a larger design. Who created it and why is hard to say. It simply lies there—quiet and enigmatic in the open mountain landscape.
