On a trip along the Sand Safari trail, you get close to the fjord, river, waterfall, historic buildings, and village life. Along the route, you will also find various QR points that give you insight into the rich history of the coastal town, with priests, stave churches, major fires, salmon lords, and the construction of power stations.
The trip starts from «Nordenden» in Sand town center along the fjord, and continues up by the mouth of the famous salmon river Suldalslågen. Here you follow the river upstream past Sandsfossen, Laksestudio, and the award-winning Høsebrua. From Høsebrua, you can take the trip on both sides of the river up to Garaneset before the trip continues up to Eide, where you pass Sand school, sports facilities, and the splendid Suldal Bad. The return trip to Sand offers several great viewpoints over Sandsfjorden. You can start the route wherever you wish.
The trip is suitable for children and adults of all ages. Here you can include stops at cafes in Sand town center and at Garaneset. You can also include stops at Laksestudio, Sandsfossen, and climbing parks.
For those who want a longer trip, you can combine Sand Safari with a trip on the trail network in Fiskebergåsen or Stegåsen. From Fiskebergåsen, you get a fantastic view over the entire municipal center, while from Stegåsen, you can reach Hellandsnuten, where you have a view over five fjords. You can also continue the trip along a path further up the river from Garaneset.
Easily accessible: This hiking trail is designed according to universal design principles and follows a wide path, which is either asphalted or gravel. Expect variations in elevation along this route.
