Sandsa Tourist Cabin

Sandsa Cabin is beautifully situated in a traditional mountain farm landscape. Around the large, regulated Lake Sandsavatnet, there are also other mountain farms such as Haugastøl, Tjøsheim-Sandsa, Stråpa-Sandsa, and Longanes. North of Sandsa Cabin are steep rock faces, and to the southeast, you can see Svultanuten; further away, you can see Napen.

The cabin is easily accessible for families with children, and during the most popular weeks in summer, there is an offer for the cabin host to transport you by boat across Lake Sandsavatnet. Check with the Tour Centre which weeks this offer applies, and book a boat at least one week in advance.

The cabin has 44 beds distributed across 12 bedrooms, so there is plenty of space. There is a large dining room, a fireplace lounge, and a spacious hallway. The cabin also has a large and spacious terrace with views over Lake Sandsavatnet.

Sandsa Cabin is self-service and available all year round, but it is not recommended to use the cabin in winter as Lake Sandsavatnet is heavily regulated and dangerous to traverse. There is no electricity at the cabin, but gas, wood-burning stoves, and candles are provided. Guests are responsible for their own cooking and cleaning. There is no provisions store at this cabin. Payment for your stay is made by filling out a payment authorization form found at the cabin, or by downloading the DNT app before departure. The cabin is open to DNT members and non-members.

If you use Sandsa Cabin as a base, there are great summit hikes to Napen (1350 masl), Reinsnuten (1144 masl), and Svinstølnuten (1178 masl). As a member of STF, you have the right to otter and rod fishing in Lake Sandsavatnet in the area. Others must purchase a fishing license.

Access: Blåsjøvegen at Osane, eastern part of Lake Sandsavatnet. It is also possible to hike to Sandsa Cabin from Osen at Lake Sandsavatnet and Kvilldal.
